Andrea Rovatti works in Milan in photography and communications design. In the best Italian creative traditions he is an eclectic: a designer, a sculptor and a photographer. His relationship with photography is a long one and is a passion he has always possessed.
As a very young man he began work as an assistant in a fashion photographer's studio. Then he met Enzo Mari and thus began a fascination for graphic design. Since then graphics and photography have always coexisted in his work becoming his distinguishing trait. His vision flows along parallel lines where the meaning and significance of images divide, suggesting a deeper understanding.
Details fascinate Rovatti: the unseen, at a glance, which isolates the whole from the field of vision.
He has always worked on the theme of an image's ambiguity and its' possibility of communicating different things to the observer.
In 2000 Rovatti published a book of photographs called Appunti per domani (Notes for tomorrow), a collection of nature and texture photographs.
Since 2001 Rovatti has also been a lecturer at the Design Faculty at Politecnico di Milano, where he teaches a course in Communications Design.
He has been member of the board of directors A.I.A.P. (Italian graphic designer association) and is currently member of the board of directors A.D.I Lombardia (Association for italian design)
He has also taught photography at ITSOS in Milan.
His work has been exhibited, amongst others, at:
the Grand Palais in Paris, the Palazzo Reale in Milan, the United Nations building in New York, the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, the Citè des Sciences et de l'Industrie (La Villette) Paris, the Indian Design Centre in Mumbai, at MART in Rovereto (Italy), the Centre de Design of Montreal and at the Triennale in Milan and at Macro Testaccio in Rome.
